HOT WEATHER POLICY

August 24, 2007
Modified 7/28/2008

Effective immediately, the following shall be the official policy regarding establishment of “Hot Weather Conditions” throughout the Southeast Region:

As a minimum, “Hot Weather Conditions” shall be in effect from the first official day of practice until September 15th  of each Pop Warner season.  Thereafter, they shall remain in effect on any day that the official high daily temperature reaches or exceeds 90 degrees.  Beyond this, Conferences, Associations and Teams should practice hot weather procedures at other times when circumstances or a combination thereof make heat related injury more likely such as actual temperature and humidity at time of practice, intensity of practice routine, physical condition of athletes, etc.

During “Hot Weather Conditions, additional break time is required and running laps is not permitted to be used as a disciplinary tool. Specific requirements may be found in the 2008 National Rule Book under Rule 27.  Failure to follow these procedures shall be deemed a violation of National Rule under Adult Offenses; Endangerment of Juveniles, which carries a minimum mandated penalty of suspension for 1 year.
